Tile My Love

Tile is one of my favorite finishes to specify. I love the richness, personality, and class it can instantly add to a space. It plays up texture, it can add personality, it can contribute to the "feel" of a space (i.e. warm, rustic, inviting, sterile, clean, etc.). I love researching tile and consider it a personal win when I can get a fun tile into a project.

Rather than talk about all the tile trends of the year within the industry, I wanted to highlight some choices that clients of mine made this past year or so. The projects vary as much as the personalities of the clients, but there were some themes that popped up (or even recurring tile specs!).

  1. White tile showers is always a safe choice, but most clients chose to do a twist on the classic subway - playing with either texture, unique shapes, or interesting patterns.

  2. Blue tile for the win! I specified a lot of blue tile this year - from backsplashes to showers, it was a recurring theme!

  3. Pattern tile is a hard sell to some, but oh man its stunning when it makes it into a project.

  4. Neutral colored tile on the floor of bathrooms, but with an interesting pattern, is a winner. Hexagon tiles, herringbone patterns, or "wood look" tile laid in a staggered pattern, all made an appearance this year.

Goals for next year - more greens, more pattern tile, and I'd love to get colored grout into a project!

Here are some tile images from various projects throughout the year.
